what is solution for first problem??? please don't let me in ignorance

Anonymous said...

they're both the same size!!! it is just an illusion...

Anonymous said...

ok you got me on the fourth one.what's the trick?

Anonymous said...

there really is no trick in the third one, it's just the way it works.
it looks and seems crazy, that's all

Anonymous said...

fourth one is amazing!

Chris said...

Okay - the fourth one

Lets add up the areas

Red triangle - 1/2*3*8=12
Green triangle - 1/2*2*5=5
yellow section - 7
green section - 8

total of 32

total area of triangle is 1/2*5*13=32.5

In the top picture, the slanted line bows in, and the extra half square is contained there. In the bottom, the line bows out, which leaves a empty square.

thank you chris

Chris you are a piece of shit with no life....kill youself

Britney's boobs are an optical illusion, too

In regards to #4:

The illusion is that the viewer assumes the sum of the parts make up a triangle. They do not.
If you look closely (or use math) you'll notice the red and green triangles do not have the same slope. The green triangle has a greater slope than the red one. Therefore (as Chris noted) the hypotenuse is not straight as it would be in an actual triangle. Instead, it bows out or in as the components are swapped.

Kevin Floyd, you are a piece of shit with no life for insulting people on an online message board... go kill yourself.

In regards to Anonymous's comment to Kevin Floyd...ZIIIINNNNGGGG

dude chris thatnks for explainng that

lol seriously floyd, you talk about getting a life, yet you insult someone via msg board...a little hypocritical?

and yes i realize i have no life, which is why i was purusing colleghumor.com

Bruise, them don't work?!? How can them work? Please don't make cheap comments unless you don't have nothing to do with your life :)

DIE KEVIN! DIE TONY THE TIGER! DIE!

the responses to #4's solution are all wrong...the solution has nothing to do with the slope of the lines...however, the length of the blue and red triangles' bases are what make up the length of the big triangle's base...thus the length of the big one does not change when they are switched...but the skinny part of the orange piece has three squares while the skinny part of the green piece only has two squares thus not allowing them to fit together perfectly...puzzle solved, thank you all

Anonymous said...

In the last one, including the black lines (which are actually really dark reds and blues), there are 8100 blue pixels and 8576 red pixels.

Anonymous said...

actually the other two responses were correct... you are not paying attention to what they are saying... thus you are retarded... thnk you all

Anonymous said...

what is 5 supposed to be? I dont have time to keep trying lol...

Anonymous said...

in #4 you can tell the slopes of the hypotenuses are different.
just look at them one is 2/5 and the other is 3/8.
it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that they dont make a straight line.

Anonymous said...

yooooo that jesus thing is trippy as fuck....

Anonymous said...

no, chris's explaination was correct. the two shapes that you are comparing are not traingles, they both have 4 sides. but the angle on what looks like the hypotenuse is very close to 180 degrees so it looks like the overall shape is only 3 sided when its actually 4. so anon at 4:59 PM, you are wrong

Anonymous said...

Wow! I can't look at this kind of stuff! Optical illusion - destroy your brain

you people are all wrong. to see how this illusion works, you have to look at the difference in sizes of the triangles-thats key. now, the two non-triangular shapes, the 'notched rectangles' are what make the difference. in the above picture, when fitted together, they form one solid rectangle. this compund rectangle is shorter(side to side), the same length as the green triangle, so the green triangle goes on top. it is also taller, the same height as the red one, so the taller rectangle goes beside it. now, in the second picture, the notched rectangles are arranged differently. they are no longer one on top of the other, but merely butted up beside eachother. so now this compound rectangle is longer, same length as the red triangle, so now that goes on top. it is also shorter, the same height as the green triangle, so that goes beside this new compound rectangle. now, for the hole in the shape. if you'll notice, the orance notched rectangle has three units taken from it, while the green one only has two removed. so, when butted up side to side, the green one will not quite reach the orange one. so in summary, the difference in length vs height allowes the two triangles to be intercangeable whilst maintaining the same overall size of the shape. also, the hypotenuse is not bent, that is a real optical illusion created by the two corners of the triangles meeting where two lines intersect. oh ya, my apologies if sumone already posted the explanation.

Anonymous at 12:21,
Are you an Idiot? Have you not paid any attention to what these people have said. The slopes of the two triangular pieces are different therefore they will not make a solid hypotenuse. Put the image in paint or something and zoom in to where it takes up the whole screen. Now, take a ruler or even a piece of paper or you could just try using your eyes and look how unstraight the "hypotenuse" is. Now count the slope again. Notice that 5/8 and 3/2 are NOT the same. Put that into your memory.

Anonymous said...

wow, if only we could render this idiot-power into electrical energy, we could solve two problems at once!

Anonymous said...

But this one goes up to eleven...

Anonymous said...

you guys are hysterical! thanx for the morning grins.

alright #4
it has everything to do with the triangles
the green triangle has a slope of 2/5 or .4
the red triangle has a slop of 3/8 or .375
close but not the same
it is not a triangle but a quadrilateral
so the so called "hypotenuse" bows out in one and in in the other and that is where the empty space comes from
